Many law enforcement applicants who advance to the Oral Exam phase
do so without the benefit of really knowing what to expect. They read a job
announcement, decide that police work seems like an interesting and stable employment,
then enter the testing process without a real clue of what it is they are getting
themselves into.
The written exam is generally easy to pass. Most applicants
have no difficulty with the physical agility exam. It isn't unusual for the
uninitiated to suddenly find themselves advancing to the Oral Exam. Pass the Oral
Exam with a high score, and suddenly you are in the hunt for one of a handful of coveted
positions. Receive a passing score, and you die on the list.
What separates the the high scores from a passing score?
Preparation! But you can't play the game unless you know the rules. What would
